• About Larry Wittig

Tamaqua resident Larry Wittig has contributed substantially to Pennsylvania’s educational, economic, and workforce development over the past 40 years. A former member of the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Academic Standards, he helped shape the policies implemented by all 501 districts across the state as the previous chair of Pennsylvania’s State Board of Education. Larry Wittig continues to create education policies as the president of the Tamaqua Area School District Board of Education and an ambassador for Lehigh Carbon Community College.

Larry Wittig also stands out for his efforts to stimulate economic development in the region. He has served on the board of directors for groups such as Blue Mountain Health System and spent six years forming workforce-development policies in Pennsylvania as a member of the PA Workforce Development Board. He now focuses on invigorating the local economy through his position on Luzerne/Schuylkill Workforce Investment Board, Inc., and with other local organizations.

The recipient of a master of business administration in accounting from Drexel University, Wittig leads as the president of two solid-waste disposal companies in Tamaqua. He also guides Wittig CPAs, a private accounting practice that he has operated for 43 years.
